Detroit is burning, the east coast is still dark, and LA…. well we don't know what LA is now. So, what is the Switch? The Switch is what happens when people forget what keeps the lights on."

The Switch is a story, or rather a group of stories.... but it's not done yet. We (Sean, Paul, and Daniel) grew up on stories of all kinds (books, movies, shows, etc.) and our favorite stories, regardless of genre, are the ones where we could let our imaginations run wild in the discussions of 'what ifs' and 'if thens'. So, in looking for something fresh, we had this idea for a world where groups using different types of energy were at war with each other, and we became obsessed with it. Like anything that really works in fantasy, there has to be some grounding in reality - a place, a set of events, a possible future, whatever. For us, the grounding to reality is "what is truly the best type of energy?" Rather than wait for someone to create a story that was sort of like our idea so we could talk about and get engrossed in it, we wondered if we could talk about the idea and create the story out of our discussions. Then we thought: what if we could talk about it with everyone?

We put together a structure for the world that The Switch lives in: canon of world events, geography, and visions for what happens in the story. From there, we figured we would invite anyone else who thinks this concept is cool to contribute to the discussion and help us actually 'write' the story. Our intention is to take this story as far as we can and to as many mediums as we can: starting with text and illustration (basically manga), but hopefully going all the way to animation and live action. We're doing this to try and create something we can participate in and that will keep us engaged for a long time.
